Scientific Research Committee
The purpose of the Northeast Seed Network’s Scientific Research Committee is to foster collaboration and drive scientific inquiry that supports the network’s mission of increasing the availability and use of high-quality native plant materials. The committee promotes and facilitates both basic and applied research, engaging internal members and external researchers to address key ecological and restoration challenges. Guided by the recommendations of the 2023 National Academy of Sciences Native Seed Assessment (Recommendations 6.1 & 6.2), the research priorities will address questions of shared interest to network members and the broader restoration community. A primary focus will be on taxon-specific studies, particularly those aligned with the Northeast Seed Network’s Target Taxa List, ensuring that the research informs practical conservation and restoration efforts.
Our current focus is on developing a comprehensive database of existing and planned research projects relevant to native plant material production and use across the Northeastern and Northern Mid-Atlantic states. If you know of any research projects that should be included in this database, or if you're interested in joining the research committee, please reach out to us here.
